NDC Demands Probe into Attack on Members in Enugu

On 15 September 2026, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) demanded an immediate investigation into an alleged attack on its members during a grassroots meeting at Obuoffia Ward in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State. The party, through its National Publicity Secretary Osa Director, described the incident as “dastardly” and unprovoked, asserting it was an affront to democracy and a violation of the constitutional right to peaceful assembly.

The NDC accused “state-sponsored thugs” of perpetrating the attack and called on security agencies to identify and prosecute both the attackers and their sponsors. The party criticized the security agencies for their complacency, claiming it had emboldened the attackers.

The NDC also referenced previous attacks on its members in Imo State, linking them to the party's growing strength in the region. The NDC emphasized that intimidation would not hinder its mobilization efforts for the upcoming 2027 general election and warned against further attacks, asserting its right to self-defense.
