NDDC Calls for Community Vigilance to Protect Infrastructure

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) called on traditional rulers and community leaders to take collective responsibility for protecting public infrastructure in the Niger Delta region. This appeal was made by NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, during a Stakeholders’ Forum on Public Infrastructure and Vandalism Prevention held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Represented by Sir Kelechi Nwelue, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Ogbuku stressed that while the government is responsible for providing basic amenities, communities must protect these assets. He highlighted that vandalism diverts funds from new projects to repairs, hindering infrastructure progress.

Ogbuku urged community leaders to view government projects as community property and foster a culture where vandalism is socially unacceptable. The NDDC Director of Community and Rural Development, Theophilus Alagoa, noted the serious economic implications of vandalism, which threatens sustainable development and increases maintenance costs.

The event aimed to educate stakeholders on the importance of safeguarding government investments.
