NDLEA and Army Destroy Cannabis Farms, Arrest Two in Edo

On September 23, 2026, a joint operation by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, and the Nigerian Army led to the destruction of two cannabis plantations in Edo State, covering 0.544092 hectares with an estimated yield of 1,360.23kg. The operation occurred at Eko Camp, Illushi, in the Esan South-East Local Government Area.

During the operation, 107kg of processed cannabis and cannabis seeds were also destroyed. Two suspects, Ajeh Egwuda, 43, and Nonso Ajodhe, were arrested; Egwuda was found cultivating a 0.068011-hectare farm yielding 170.03kg, while Ajodhe had a larger plantation of 0.476081 hectares yielding 1,190.20kg.

Mitchell Ofoyeju, the Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking. He emphasized the commitment to dismantling drug networks and thanked Brig. Gen. Ahmed Balogun for military support.
