NDLEA Arrests Chinese Woman for Drug Smuggling in Lagos

On May 17, 2026, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 63-year-old Chinese woman Ting Hung Kiong at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. She was allegedly attempting to smuggle 31 kilograms of synthetic cannabis, known as Canadian loud, into Nigeria after arriving from Thailand via Dubai on an Emirates Airlines flight.

During her interview, Kiong claimed she was a caregiver in Malaysia and was sponsored for her trip by her daughter. The NDLEA also reported the interception of a major drug shipment at the airport, which included over 1.8 million tablets of tapentadol worth approximately N2.19 billion.

Additional arrests were made, including Onyeka Valentin Emeka, who was caught with cocaine, and Babatunde Prosper Afekhide, who attempted to board a flight with concealed opioids. The NDLEA continues its nationwide efforts against drug abuse and trafficking, with commendations from its chairman, Brig Gen Buba Marwa.
