NDLEA Seizes Over N5bn in Drugs, Arrests Businessman

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted consignments of drugs valued at over N5 billion at Apapa, Tin Can Island, and Onne ports. A 28-year-old businessman, Philip Tunde, was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle 4.80 kilogrammes of cocaine to Milan, Italy, through Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, reported that 161 parcels of Thai Loud cannabis weighing 124 kilogrammes and worth N372 million were seized at Apapa Port, concealed in refrigerators and cartons from Bangkok, Thailand. At Tin Can Island Port, operatives recovered 2,595 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 1,297.5 kilogrammes, valued at over N3.8 billion, hidden in vehicles and drums.
Additionally, at Onne Port, 40 packs of Loud and 109,600 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup were seized, valued at N833.2 million. The operation was based on months of intelligence gathering.
