NDLEA Seizes N17bn Opioids in Major Lagos Drug Raid

On April 17, 2026, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) executed a major operation in Lagos, uncovering and raiding three illicit drug warehouses concealed within residential estates. The operation, led by intelligence, resulted in the seizure of 4.3 million opioids, including 2,360,000 high-potency tramadol pills and 1,909,400 bottles of codeine syrup, with a total estimated street value of nearly N17 billion.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Buba Marwa described the raid as a decisive strike against a major drug syndicate, highlighting the sophistication of the drug cartel. Marwa emphasized that the agency is committed to dismantling drug networks across Nigeria, asserting that there will be no safe haven for drug traffickers, whether in elite mansions or suburban warehouses.

The operation marks a significant step in the ongoing campaign to curb substance abuse and disrupt the supply chain of illicit drugs.
