NDLEA and UNODC Launch Anti-Drug Campaign in Abuja

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) launched a weeklong anti-drug campaign in Abuja, Nigeria, on June 19, 2023. This initiative aligns with the theme of this year's World Drug Day, emphasizing the need for modern technology-driven countermeasures against the evolving nature of global narcotics trade.

Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, stated that traditional approaches are insufficient to combat increasingly sophisticated criminal networks. The NDLEA has modernized its operations and expanded prevention efforts since launching the nationwide campaign in 2021.

The weeklong commemorative events include faith-based activities, anti-drug walks, student essay competitions, and outreach programs targeting vulnerable youth across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The campaign will culminate in a conference at the State House in Abuja on June 26, where government officials, diplomats, and international partners are expected to unveil a new policy framework to address contemporary drug-related challenges.
