NDLEA Calls for Public Support Against Drug Abuse

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), represented by Deputy Commandant of Narcotics Dr. Aliyu Omama, called for public support to address drug abuse in Nigeria during a Drug Abuse Prevention Summit organized by the Bamford DeBruce Foundation in Abuja.

Dr. Omama warned that substance abuse is destroying families, fueling violent crime, and threatening the nation's future.

He urged the public to provide credible information on drug traffickers, assuring confidentiality for informants. Dr.

Omama cited alarming examples of drug-induced violence, including a case where a young man killed his father while hallucinating. He clarified that the NDLEA's role ends after suspects are arraigned, with sentencing being the judiciary's responsibility.

He also mentioned the agency's rehabilitation centers for individuals battling drug dependence. Princess Ekwe, CEO of the Bamford DeBruce Foundation, emphasized the importance of prevention and parental engagement in combating drug addiction.

Martin Igwe from WANSA called for concrete national actions against drug abuse, linking it to insecurity.
