Nearly 700 Civilians Killed in Sudan Drone Strikes This Year

The United Nations reported that nearly 700 civilians have been killed in drone strikes in Sudan this year, as stated by Tom Fletcher, the UN aid chief. This announcement coincides with the three-year anniversary of the civil war in Sudan, which has led to the world's largest humanitarian crisis as it enters its fourth year.

The conflict, primarily involving the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has resulted in the deaths of approximately 10,000 people and displaced 11 million, exacerbating hunger and famine in the region. The RSF controls significant areas, including Darfur, and has caused entire communities to be uprooted.

Fletcher highlighted that nearly 34 million people, almost two-thirds of Sudan's population, require humanitarian support, with rising hunger and malnutrition among children. The UN's appeal for $2.9 billion in aid for Sudan this year has only received 16 percent of the necessary funding, prompting calls for increased international support to address the crisis.
