Ned Nwoko Affirms Anioma's Igbo Heritage in Delta State

Ned Nwoko, the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, reaffirmed the Igbo heritage of the Anioma people during a press conference in Calabar. He dismissed long-standing misconceptions regarding their identity, asserting that the Anioma people are indeed Igbos.

Nwoko explained that the quest for Anioma State stems from a historical struggle for self-determination and inclusion in the Igbo nation, a movement that predates Nigeria's independence. He referenced significant historical events, including advocacy by his grandfather and other local kings in 1949 for the Anioma people to join the Igbo Union.

Nwoko highlighted the contributions of prominent Anioma leaders, such as the late Chief Dennis Osadebe, in pushing for the creation of a separate Igbo state. He reiterated that the push for Anioma State is a long-standing quest for independence and inclusion within the Igbo identity, declaring that there would be "no retreat, no surrender" in his political journey as he plans to contest the Senate seat in the 2027 election.
