NEDI Initiative to Transform Nigeria's Education System

The NEDI Initiative, as articulated by Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Alausa, is designed to enhance education planning and budgeting in Nigeria.

During a stakeholders' meeting held in Abuja, Alausa emphasized the importance of a robust data infrastructure that will provide relevant information about learners and schools across the country. Abubakar Isah, associated with the NEDI Initiative, explained that it will serve as a single source of truth for educational data at all levels, from basic to tertiary education.

The initiative aims to track every learner's academic journey and promote transparency and accountability in educational management. Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, noted that the NEDI Initiative reflects a strong commitment to building a modern evidence-based education system capable of supporting inclusive learning and improving outcomes for Nigerian children and young people.

Venasa Lee, Chief Education Officer at UNICEF, highlighted the urgency of establishing a stronger educational data system to address inequities in access to quality education.
