NELFUND Disburses N1.08bn to Nursing Students Nationwide

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the disbursement of N1.08 billion to support 5,381 nursing and midwifery students across 21 federal and state-owned institutions for the academic sessions of 2023/2024, 2024/2025, and 2025/2026. The funding has seen a dramatic increase from N59.4 million in the first session to N205.8 million in the second, culminating in N811.9 million in the current session, representing over a thirteenfold rise in annual funding.

NELFUND Managing Director and Chief Executive, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, emphasized that this initiative is an investment in Nigeria's healthcare workforce, aiming to remove financial barriers for students. The majority of beneficiaries are young women, reflecting the gender composition in nursing and midwifery professions.

Executive Director, Operations, Mr. Mustapha Iyal, stated that NELFUND is committed to providing timely support to enable more Nigerians to acquire essential skills and qualifications.
