Shettima Lauds NELFUND for Supporting Poor Students

Vice President Kashim Shettima described the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a landmark initiative that provides essential financial relief to students from poor backgrounds, thereby eliminating financial barriers to higher education. Established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, NELFUND covers tuition and offers monthly allowances, ensuring that poverty does not hinder access to tertiary education.

Shettima made these remarks during a meeting with the management team of the University of Abuja, now known as Yakubu Gowon University, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Hakeem Fawehinmi. He reflected on his own student experiences and praised NELFUND as a significant initiative for poverty alleviation.

Shettima also noted Nigeria's progress towards sustainable economic development under the Tinubu administration, attributing improvements in the country's credit ratings to various economic reforms. He commended Prof Fawehinmi for his leadership at the university and pledged federal support for the institution's growth.
