NEMA and World Bank Group Enhance Kogi's Emergency Response

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Abuja operations office, collaborated with the World Bank Group (WBG) to assess the implementation of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPR&R) in Kogi State. This assessment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen disaster management systems across Nigeria.

It followed an EPR&R workshop held earlier in the year and aimed to evaluate Kogi State’s Ready-to-Respond status, identify existing capacities, and highlight gaps needing intervention. NEMA Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, represented by Pharmacist Zakari Abubakar, emphasized the agency's commitment to supporting states in building effective emergency management structures.

The assessment involved key stakeholders, including NEMA, the Nigerian Navy, NSCDC, Kogi State Fire Service, Nigerian Red Cross Society, KOSEMA, Kogi State Government, NIWA, and other relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Stakeholders reviewed response mechanisms, assessed institutional capabilities, and identified areas for strengthening to enhance operational effectiveness during emergencies.
