NEPZA Approves Harvestfield FTZ to Boost Medical Production

The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has approved Harvestfield Industries' free trade zone, which specializes in medical products, to significantly reduce the importation of medical goods. Dr.

Olufemi Ogunyemi, the Managing Director of NEPZA, announced that the facility, a joint venture with SNG Health, will produce 10 million dual insecticidal nets annually and create an estimated 600 jobs in Ogun State. The license for operations was declared on Tuesday in Abuja.

Dr. Ogunyemi emphasized that the free trade zone will enable medical investors to leverage Nigeria's resources to boost local production and supply of medical products.

The initiative aligns with the government's focus on addressing healthcare deficits and creating new opportunities for the country to become an exporter of health products. The facility, expected to start production in April 2026, will supply 30% of Nigeria's demand for insecticidal nets, addressing the country's significant malaria burden, which accounts for 27% of the global malaria cases and 30% of malaria deaths annually.
