Shehu Sani Welcomes Zamfara Governor's Party Defection

Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker, reacted to Governor Dauda Lawal's recent defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that this move could usher in a new phase of peace and reconciliation among the political elite in Zamfara State. Sani made these remarks in a statement on Tuesday, emphasizing that the long-standing political divisions in the state have significantly undermined efforts to address security challenges, particularly banditry.

He described Zamfara as the epicenter of banditry in the Northwest and stressed the importance of unity among political leaders to confront the crisis. Sani expressed his satisfaction with Lawal's decision, indicating that it could help tackle the daily security issues plaguing the state.

The political rivalry and hostility among actors in Zamfara have weakened coordinated security efforts over the years, according to Sani.
