NERC's New Mini-Grid Regulations to Boost Renewable Energy

Dr. Abba Aliyu, Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), has hailed the newly released mini-grid regulations by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as a historic turning point that will fast-track large-scale project delivery in Nigeria's renewable energy sector.

This regulatory update follows two years of intensive advocacy and technical submissions from the REA. Dr.

Aliyu noted that the new rules represent a shift in addressing power scarcity and will strategically scale innovative solutions to meet the energy demands of underserved areas. He emphasized that the long delays in project delivery have been due to systemic failures that hinder investment.

The REA's MD expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of NERC's Chairman, Dr. Musiliu Olalekan Oseni, and the NERC team, highlighting the importance of developing major initiatives to navigate bureaucratic hurdles and accelerate infrastructure deployment to meet the true energy demands of underserved communities.
