New Zealand Sets Criteria for Parent Resident Visa Sponsors

New Zealand Immigration has published guidance detailing three categories of individuals eligible to sponsor their parents for the Parent Resident Visa. The categories include: 1) An adult child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident; 2) Both the adult child and their partner; 3) Both the adult child and another adult child of the parents included in the application.

All sponsors must hold New Zealand citizenship or residency and must have resided in the country for at least three years. If the sponsorship involves an adult child and their partner, they must provide evidence of a genuine relationship and cohabitation for at least 12 months prior to the application.

The financial capacity of the sponsoring child is crucial, as the visa program is designed for parents whose children can financially support their relocation and stay in New Zealand.
