NEYGA Criticizes SERAP Over Court Ruling on DSS Case

The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) condemned the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) for calling a Federal High Court judgment a "travesty." The court awarded N100 million in damages to two operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) due to defamation by SERAP. NEYGA's spokesperson, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Musa, expressed deep concern over SERAP's comments, stating that they undermine free speech and accountability.

The judgment, delivered by Justice Halilu Yusuf, also mandated SERAP to publish an apology in two national newspapers and two television stations. NEYGA highlighted SERAP's hypocrisy, noting that while it seeks to hold others accountable, it resists scrutiny itself.

The group also mentioned that this case is unprecedented in Nigeria's history, where security personnel have sought legal redress for defamation. NEYGA commended the DSS leadership for taking legal action to protect its operatives' rights.
