NEYGA Criticizes SERAP Over Court Ruling on DSS Case

NEYGA, a northern ethnic youth group, condemned SERAP for calling the Federal High Court's judgment awarding N100 million in damages to two defamed DSS operatives a "travesty." The court also ordered SERAP to publish an apology in two national newspapers and two television stations. NEYGA's spokesperson, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Musa, expressed deep concern over SERAP's comments, suggesting they undermine free speech and accountability.

The judgment, delivered by Justice Halilu Yusuf, indicated that SERAP cannot hold others accountable while avoiding scrutiny itself. NEYGA noted that this case marks a significant moment in Nigeria's legal history, where security personnel sought legal recourse rather than resorting to self-help.

NEYGA also highlighted SERAP's ongoing court cases against the Nigerian government and suggested that SERAP's actions reflect hypocrisy. The group commended the DSS leadership for protecting its operatives' rights through legal means.
