Diri Commends Shaibu's Leadership at NFF Assembly

On March 23, 2026, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) held an extraordinary general assembly at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. Governor Douye Diri opened the assembly, highlighting the significant impact of Philip Shaibu, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), on Nigeria's sports administration.

Diri noted that under Shaibu's leadership, the NIS has undergone rapid transformation, a notable achievement in a short period. He urged political appointees, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to emulate Shaibu's visionary leadership and commitment to reforming sports administration.

The assembly attracted prominent figures in the sports sector, including Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, and other key stakeholders, to deliberate on critical reforms aimed at strengthening Nigerian football.
