NFF Denies Demanding Infantino's Resignation Amid Controversy

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially dismissed false reports circulating on social media that it has requested FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign. In a statement posted on its official X handle on September 19, 2023, the NFF clarified, “Contrary to reports, especially on social media, #thenff has never asked and is not asking for #FIFAcom President, Mr. Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA PRESIDENT.

This is outright falsehood. Kindly disregard.” This clarification comes during a period of increased scrutiny of Infantino's leadership, particularly following a controversial proposal to sell commercial rights associated with the World Cup.

Infantino faced significant criticism after revealing plans to sell minority stakes in FIFA tournaments to private investors without consulting a majority of FIFA’s member associations. He had also prepared to offer each member association up to $40 million to gain support for this proposal before a September 19 deadline.
