ANEEJ Raises Awareness on Social Protection in Enugu

The African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) held an outreach session in Okwojo Community, Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State, to enhance citizen understanding and participation in ongoing social protection initiatives. This outreach, conducted in collaboration with Bread for the World and supported by the European Union (EU), aimed to raise community awareness about social protection programs in Enugu State.

Rev. David Ugolor, the Executive Director of ANEEJ, highlighted the essential role of social protection in addressing poverty and improving the well-being of vulnerable groups, including women, youth, and people with disabilities.

Matthew Megwai, the State Program Officer for ActNaija, noted the ongoing social protection interventions in Enugu, such as cash transfers and health insurance. Azuka Ozo from the Enugu State Ministry of Budget and Planning urged citizens to register for benefits, while Sundai Ogbuanya from the State Cash Transfer Unit encouraged participation to ensure access to these programs.

Florence Ifeanyi Anek from NELCCI also stressed the need for rural populations to register for social protection benefits.
