The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) has called on the Enugu State House of Assembly to enact a bill that would provide six months of paid maternity leave for nursing mothers in civil and public service. This advocacy comes as twenty-two other states in Nigeria have already adopted similar laws.

CS-SUNN's National Chair Advocacy Lead, Onyinye Mamah, along with Project Lead Ambrose Evhoesor, met with Hon. Hyginus Okoh, the Chairman of the House Committee on Civil Service, Labour and Employment, and Hon. Princess Obiagulu Ugwu, the Water Resources Committee Chair, to discuss the initiative. Mamah highlighted the critical period for exclusive breastfeeding, which is essential for the mental growth of children, and urged the legislators to ensure Enugu becomes compliant with this maternity leave policy.

The legislators expressed their commitment to support the initiative, emphasizing the importance of taking care of workers and the progressive nature of the current governor.
