NGX Market Wrap 15-May-2026 | Plus234Feed
The Nigerian Exchange closed at 250,881.47 points on Friday with a balanced market showing 59,540 deals and ₦38.2 billion in traded value. Symmetrical 10% swings in top gainers and losers suggest sector rotation rather than broad-based momentum.
Friday's trading session painted a picture of selective market interest, with investors rotating between distinct stock cohorts while the broader index held ground at 250,881.47 points.
The standout feature was the mirror-image performance between top movers: gainers and losers both clustered around 10% swings, a pattern suggesting deliberate capital reallocation rather than panic selling or euphoric buying. ABCTRANS led gainers with a ₦0.57 jump to ₦6.27 (+10.00%), followed closely by SCOA's ₦3.00 gain reaching ₦33.05 (+9.98%). Transport and logistics stocks dominated the winner's list—TRANSEXPR added ₦0.64 to ₦7.06 (+9.97%)—signaling potential sector-specific interest, though trade volume data alone cannot confirm whether this reflects fundamental optimism or tactical positioning.
The inverse side showed equal precision: SOVRENINS fell ₦0.27 to ₦2.43 (-10.00%) and ZICHIS dropped ₦3.26 to ₦29.43 (-9.97%), with FTNCOCOA, TIP, and LIVINGTRUST completing the symmetry. This mechanical balance raises questions about whether algorithmic or institutional flows are driving price discovery.
Liquidity remained robust. FIRSTHOLDCO dominated volume at 56.9 million shares, with UBA (55.2M) and STERLINGNG (50.9M) sustaining banking sector engagement. Market capitalisation stood at ₦160.8 trillion across 678.2 million shares traded.
Watch for Monday's session to confirm whether Friday's rotation represents a genuine shift in sectoral risk appetite or mean reversion consolidation.
