The All-Share Index declined 0.50% to close at 247,144.27 points, signalling investor caution despite strong activity across the market. Financials dominated trading volume, though selective gains in defensive stocks and fixed income securities provided some support.

The Nigerian Exchange closed in negative territory on Monday as the All-Share Index retreated 0.50% to 247,144.27 points. While the decline was modest, it reflects underlying uncertainty among market participants, even as trading activity remained robust with 49,653 total deals and ₦16.1 billion in value exchanged.

Financial stocks drove the session's volume leadership. ACCESSCORP topped the most-traded list with 31.4 million shares, followed by JAIZBANK at 27.3 million and ZENITHBANK at 26.9 million shares. This concentration in banking stocks suggests institutional positioning rather than broad-based buying conviction.

The gainers' board painted a tale of selective strength in specific pockets. FGSUK2031S4, a fixed income security, surged 26.78% to ₦98.93, indicating investor appetite for bonds. GUINNESS climbed 9.93% to ₦423.00, whilst NEIMETH, UPDCREIT, and LIVESTOCK each gained 10%, suggesting some interest in dividend-yielding and real-sector stocks. These moves hint at a flight toward income-generating assets.

Conversely, the losers reflected profit-taking in energy and financial services. OANDO fell 7.55% to ₦33.65, whilst STERLINGNG slipped 9.09% to ₦70.00. FIRSTHOLDCO dropped 7.55%, losing ₦10.85 per share.

Market capitalisation stood at ₦160.47 trillion, unchanged by the index movement's magnitude. The session's character suggests investors remain selective, rotating between sectors based on valuation and yield prospects rather than displaying conviction in either direction.

Investors should monitor whether tomorrow's session builds on financials' volume leadership or if the decline signals broader hesitation ahead.
