The Nigerian Exchange closed marginally higher on Tuesday, with the ASI gaining 0.06% to settle at 247,283.41 points as selective buying in financial and industrial stocks offset weakness elsewhere. Trading activity remained robust, with ₦18 billion in daily value exchanged across 36,197 deals.

The Nigerian Exchange delivered a cautiously optimistic close on October 13, with the All-Share Index advancing just 14.79 points or 0.06% to 247,283.41 points. While the gain was modest, it underscores sustained investor appetite despite economic headwinds.

Performance was decidedly mixed across the market. The top gainers list was led by ETRANZACT, which surged 9.96% to ₦14.35, followed by strong performances from LIVESTOCK (+9.34% to ₦15.80) and WAPIC (+7.83% to ₦2.48). CHAMS and ETI also posted solid gains of 5.88% and 5.22% respectively, suggesting that selective value-hunting continued in smaller-cap and mid-cap equities.

However, profit-taking pressures emerged elsewhere. LEGENDINT led the losers' chart with a sharp 9.59% decline to ₦3.30, while OMATEK (-6.43% to ₦1.31) and NSLTECH (-5.71% to ₦0.66) also retreated significantly. Insurance plays like AIICO declined 4.39% to ₦3.92.

Volume metrics told a reassuring story. ACCESSCORP dominated trading with 49.6 million shares exchanged, while LIVESTOCK attracted 45.7 million shares, reflecting confidence in large-cap and dividend-sensitive counters. The financial services sector's prominence in both most-traded rankings and top gainers suggests institutional accumulation in defensive positions.

At ₦160.6 trillion, market capitalisation remained resilient, though investors should watch whether tomorrow's session sustains this breadth or sees consolidation around current levels.
