NGX Market Wrap Nov 3: ASI Flat Amid Mixed Trading

The Nigerian Exchange closed virtually flat on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, with the All-Share Index declining just 0.04% to 245,104.48 points as broad-based gains were offset by selective weakness in heavyweight stocks. Trading activity remained steady across 35,994 deals worth ₦19.02 billion, with mid-cap and small-cap rallies failing to sustain broader market momentum.

The NGX ended another indecisive session on Tuesday, with the ASI's marginal 0.04% decline masking underlying divergence between market segments. While five top gainers posted gains averaging 8%, including UPL's impressive 9.52% jump to ₦4.60 and INTBREW's 6.47% advance to ₦9.05, these rallies were counterbalanced by losses in key blue-chips that weighed on overall sentiment.

FTGINSURE and VITAFOAM led the losers' chart, each falling approximately 10%, shedding ₦0.17 and ₦15.70 respectively. These declines, particularly VITAFOAM's sharp drop from ₦157.20, suggest renewed profit-taking in high-priced equities. CAVERTON, ABCTRANS, and AFRIPRUD also posted notable losses ranging from 5.66% to 7.58%, indicating sector-wide weakness in logistics, transport, and insurance plays.

Volume data reveals cautious trading patterns. ZICHIS dominated turnover with 127.3 million shares traded, followed by ACCESSCORP's 32.4 million shares, while the top five most-traded stocks accounted for significant activity. This concentration suggests retail positioning in select counters rather than broad-based accumulation.

The market's inability to build on morning strength reflects investor hesitation ahead of anticipated economic data or policy announcements. With market capitalisation steady at ₦164.99 trillion, participants appear content to consolidate rather than commit fresh capital.

Watch for VITAFOAM's recovery attempt and broader small-cap sustainability in the next session.
