NICRAT and AACR Launch Cancer Prevention Campaign in Abuja

The Nigerian Institute of Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), in collaboration with the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), initiated a cancer prevention sensitization campaign in Gwagwa, Abuja. The campaign was announced by Prof.

Usman Malam Aliyu, the Director-General of NICRAT, during a community outreach event. Dr.

Arisegi Sarafadeen Adeniyi represented NICRAT at the event. Prof.

Aliyu emphasized that the outreach is part of a broader strategy to address cancer as a significant public health challenge in Nigeria. He noted the importance of enhancing screening uptake and establishing a comprehensive system-level response to improve early detection and treatment pathways.

The initiative aims to connect individuals with appropriate care, leveraging a national cancer intelligence platform to track patient journeys in real-time. Prof.

Aliyu highlighted that early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes and reduce costs, urging community leaders and stakeholders to play a vital role in sustaining awareness and participation beyond the outreach.
