University of Abuja Advocates for Early Cancer Detection

On Wednesday, during a cancer awareness program held at the University of Abuja's College of Health Sciences auditorium, Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehimi, the Vice Chancellor, advocated for regular health check-ups to facilitate early detection of diseases, including cancer.

He addressed staff, students, and the general public, urging them to prioritize their health. The event was organized by the University of Abuja Women's Association (UAWA), which called on both governmental and non-governmental organizations to intensify health education and screening programs.

Prof. Hauwa Imam, chairperson of UAWA, described cancer as a deadly disease that requires collective efforts to combat.

Dr. Hadeezat Omotayo Fawehimi delivered a welcome speech, emphasizing the need to empower communities with knowledge to encourage early detection and action against cancer.

Dr. Nandi Tokki, representing the National Institute of Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), highlighted the significance of World Cancer Day and the importance of understanding cancer risks and early detection.
