NACAT Advocates for Equitable Distribution of Pipeline Surveillance Contracts in Niger Delta

The Niger Delta Advocacy and Transparency Group (NACAT) is pushing for the equitable distribution of pipeline surveillance contracts in the Niger Delta region. NACAT claims that the contracts are currently monopolized by the Ijaw ethnic group, particularly being handled by three major companies - Tantita Security Services, Maton Engineering Nigeria Limited, and Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo.

Fejiro Oliv, the chairman of NACAT, insists that the contracts should be shared among all ethnic groups in the region to promote fairness and inclusivity. The group highlights the Nigerian Local Content Act, which mandates that Nigerian companies should have at least 51% equity share in projects within the oil and gas industry.

NACAT alleges that the current situation where only Ijaw individuals manage the entire pipeline surveillance in the Niger Delta region goes against the spirit of this act. The group has faced threats and attacks for raising these concerns, with members receiving death threats and warnings to stop their advocacy efforts.
