NHRC Niger State Reports 1,000 Human Rights Violations

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Niger State disclosed that it has handled 1,000 cases of human rights violations. Hassana Maiyaki, the head of the Gender Desk at the NHRC, spoke about the importance of partnering with civil society organizations to address human rights abuses, particularly those related to gender violence.

The NHRC is collaborating with SCAPAGBV 3.0 to ensure that perpetrators of gender violence are held accountable. Maiyaki noted that many individuals are unaware of their rights concerning human rights violations, which complicates reporting and addressing these issues.

Bolanle Jibowu, chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Niger State, reiterated the commitment to ending gender-based violence and emphasized the need for funding to support these initiatives. Olasukanmi Kalejaiy, project director of SCAPAGBV 3.0, expressed hope for continued support and funding to amplify the voices of women and girls affected by gender-based violence in society.
