ECOWAS Concerned Over Withdrawal Impact on West Africa Counter-Terrorism Efforts

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) raised alarm over the withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger impacting counter-terrorism efforts in the region. President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Tourai, highlighted the persistent insecurity in the region, emphasizing the importance of peace and security as the core mandate of ECOWAS.

Despite economic growth projections and advancements in free trade, infrastructure, and security architecture, challenges persist due to reduced security cooperation. ECOWAS condemned coup attempts in Benin Republic and called for inclusive governance in Guinea-Bissau.

The region's economy is resilient, with growth projections and structural reforms contributing to stability. ECOWAS is committed to humanitarian response, disaster risk reduction, and infrastructure development to enhance regional integration and security.
