Nigeria Leads 69 Countries for 2027 World Agritourism Day

Nigeria, along with more than 69 countries, has begun preparations for the 2027 World Agritourism Day (WAD), scheduled for May 16, 2027. The event is coordinated by the World Agritourism Organisation (WAO) through the UNWAO Advocacy Initiative, powered by International Tourist Choice Ltd.

The theme for the event is “Smart Climate Agritourism for Sustainable Development.” Amb. Arc.

Trust Henry Ogboi, President of WAO, announced the preparations in Abuja, emphasizing agritourism's role in climate resilience, job creation, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, and Zimbabwe have expressed interest in participating under a proposed Global Public Private Partnership (GPPP) Cooperation Framework.

Key priorities include institutionalizing World Agritourism Day and advocating for the UNWAO Advocacy Initiative. A proposed World Agritourism Centre in Benue State is being developed as a major international destination.

The WAO and UNWAO Advocacy Initiative are calling for support from governments, investors, and stakeholders to enhance global agritourism and sustainable economic growth.
