WAO Calls for Agritourism in Nigeria's Agrifood Strategy

The World Agritourism Organisation (WAO) has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to integrate Agritourism into the 10-Year Agrifood System Strategy (2026–2035) as outlined in the African Union’s Kampala Agrifood Declaration. Arc. Trust Henry Ogboi, stated that this integration would enhance food security, create jobs, and drive sustainable economic growth.

He commended the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its support of Agritourism since 2017 and praised the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for inaugurating WAO in 2023. Ogboi explained that Agritourism combines agriculture, tourism, and sustainability, creating multiple income sources for farmers and promoting inclusive national development.

The WAO has initiated several programs, including the annual World Agritourism Day and the Nigerian Agritourism Village Project Initiative. The organization emphasized that Agritourism would diversify Nigeria’s economy, attract investments, and create employment opportunities, particularly for youth.
