Nigeria and South Sudan Strengthen Bilateral Relations

On a recent date, the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, met with His Excellency Ambassador David Buom Choat, the Ambassador of South Sudan to Nigeria, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. The discussions centered on the ongoing peace process and national reconciliation in South Sudan, with Enikanolaiye reaffirming Nigeria's commitment to supporting durable peace and stability in the region.

He urged the South Sudanese government to implement the Revitalised Peace Accord transparently and inclusively, leading up to the scheduled Presidential elections in December 2026. Enikanolaiye also expressed concern over a recent assault on a Nigerian diplomat in Juba, condemning the act and calling for a thorough investigation.

He emphasized the need for South Sudan to ensure the safety of Nigerian diplomatic personnel in accordance with the Vienna Convention. The meeting underscored the historical ties between Nigeria and South Sudan, particularly Nigeria's contributions to South Sudan's independence process.
