Nigeria and Gambia to Enhance Bilateral Relations

On July 15, 2026, during the ECOWAS mid-year summit in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Nigerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiy, met with Gambian Foreign Minister Modou Njie to discuss enhancing bilateral relations between Nigeria and The Gambia. Ambassador Enikanolaiy commended the excellent state of relations between the two countries and expressed Nigeria's intent to deepen collaboration for mutual benefit.

The Gambian Foreign Minister congratulated Enikanolaiy on his appointment and appreciated Nigeria's leadership role, particularly during Gambia's political impasse in 2017. The meeting emphasized Nigeria's commitment to promoting pan-African unity and solidarity, particularly through the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (TAC), which provides highly qualified professionals to support manpower development in African and Caribbean countries.

Both ministers agreed to strengthen relations and resuscitate the Nigeria-Gambia Joint Commission to explore new areas of cooperation.
