Nigeria Prevents 18m Malaria Cases Annually, Health Minister Reports Progress

The Minister of Health, Dr. Iziaq Salako, revealed that Nigeria averts 18 million malaria cases each year through the National Malaria Eradication Program.

The country has made progress in distributing 63 million insecticide-treated nets, with 70% of Nigerian households having at least one net. Despite challenges like low health financing and poor infrastructure, Nigeria has recorded significant milestones in reducing maternal and child deaths.

Dr. Salako highlighted improvements in key health indicators, including a decline in maternal mortality rates and increased access to skilled birth attendants.

However, the country still faces challenges such as low health financing and a high doctor-patient ratio.
