Nigeria U-17 Women’s Team Qualifies for World Cup 2026

The Nigeria U-17 women's team, known as the Flamingos, qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in Morocco from October 17 to November 7. They achieved this by defeating Benin Republic 5-3 in the second leg of the final round of African qualifiers, resulting in an 8-5 aggregate victory.

The match took place at Stade de Kégué in Lomé, Togo. This victory earned Nigeria one of Africa's four qualification slots for the tournament, with Morocco qualifying automatically as the host nation.

The 2026 edition will be the 10th tournament and will feature an expanded format of 24 teams, up from the previous 16. The Flamingos previously won a bronze medal at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India, marking them as the first Nigerian team to finish on the podium in a FIFA women's tournament.
