Nigeria, Benin, Cameroon Boost Border Cooperation

The Nigeria Customs Service has reinforced its commitment to coordinated border management and regional economic integration after a high-level benchmarking mission to the Beitbridge Border Post between Zimbabwe and South Africa. The mission included key figures such as Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi, Director-General of Cameroon Customs Fongod Nuvaga, and Director-General of Benin Customs Raouf Aboudou.

Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, stated that the event was supported by the African Export-Import Bank to promote intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Adeniyi described the mission as pivotal for customs administrations to implement modern border management systems, emphasizing that sustainable reform relies on coordinated institutions and digital interoperability.

Nuvaga and Aboudou echoed the need for collective action to eliminate trade bottlenecks and improve border efficiency, highlighting the importance of harmonized procedures and institutional partnerships for seamless trade across regional corridors.
