Nigeria Champions Migration Governance at UN Forum

At the UN Migration Forum held in New York, Nigeria's Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Poverty Reduction, and Disaster Management, Dr. Bernard M.

Doro, reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to advancing safe, orderly, and regular migration while strengthening diaspora engagement. The forum is part of the ongoing International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) 2026, which will take place from May 5-8, 2026, at the United Nations Headquarters.

Dr. Doro led Nigeria's delegation, which included representatives from the Nigeria Immigration Service, National Population Commission, National Human Rights Commission, and National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.

He emphasized the need for a coordinated, data-driven migration governance system that prioritizes partnerships capable of delivering measurable outcomes for citizens. The minister also highlighted the importance of expanding migrant access to healthcare and education, improving remittance systems, and promoting human rights within the migration framework.

He concluded by reaffirming Nigeria's resolve to strengthen institutional coordination and deepen global partnerships to ensure migration contributes meaningfully to national development.
