Nigeria Advances Diaspora Engagement at IMRF 2026

Nigeria is actively pushing for stronger diaspora engagement and migration reform at the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) 2026. The initiative was co-chaired by Bernard M.

Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, during a roundtable held at the United Nations headquarters. Doro reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and deepening diaspora engagement as a driver for national development.

He emphasized the need to align Nigeria's diaspora strategy with national development priorities and strengthen migration governance systems. The minister noted the growing role of the Nigerian diaspora, highlighting their contributions through remittances, investments, and skill transfers.

He called for a coordinated approach to humanitarian migration responses and urged stakeholders to share best practices for scalable solutions that support proactive and inclusive development. Doro reiterated that Nigeria's approach aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes inclusive growth and stronger international partnerships.
