Nigeria Qualifies for All Events at World Relays 2026

Nigeria has been cleared to participate in all six events at the World Athletics Relays, which will take place in Gaborone, Botswana, from May 2 to May 3, 2026. Carlo de Ang, head of sports services at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), announced the confirmation of Nigeria's entries over the weekend.

The AFN, under the leadership of President Tonobok Okowa, has shown an impressive upward trajectory in athletics over the past 12 months. The AFN's media committee chairman, Maxwell Kumoy, emphasized the strategic support from the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the role of Director General Bukola Olopade in strengthening Nigeria's athletic pipeline.

The Nigerian relay teams have demonstrated outstanding performances, securing their places among the world's elite relay nations. The men's 4x400m relay team, including athletes like Samson Nathaniel and Emmanuel Oj Victor, and the women's 4x100m relay team, featuring Maria Omokw and Chidera Ezeakor, have qualified through their impressive times at the Lefika International Relay in Botswana.
