Nigeria Secures Six Entries for 2026 World Relays

World Athletics has officially approved Nigeria's entries for six events at the 2026 World Relays scheduled for May 2-3 in Gaborone. The approved events include the men's and women's 4x400m, mixed 4x100m, and mixed 4x400m.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) had initially qualified for three events and sought additional slots, which were granted following a request by Carlo de Ang, head of sport services at World Athletics. This participation is expected to enhance Nigeria's medal prospects and strengthen their chances for qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championship in Beijing.

The Nigerian team has commenced training at the YabaTech Sport Complex in Lagos, supervised by Technical Director Gabriel Okon. Notable athletes in the men's 4x100m team include Olympic finalist Enoch Adegok, while the women's 4x100m team features Jenif Chukwuka and Rosemari Chukwuma.

The mixed relay teams also include a blend of these athletes, preparing for a competitive event with 723 athletes from 40 countries.
