Nigeria and FAO Strengthen Collaboration for Food Security and Farmer Support

Nigeria and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are exploring enhanced collaboration to improve food security and support Nigerian farmers. Minister Abubakar Kyari urged deeper cooperation during a meeting with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu at the 2025 World Food Forum in Rome.

The focus is on strengthening food systems, creating jobs, and increasing agricultural productivity in Nigeria. Kyari emphasized the need for FAO's support in areas like irrigation, water management, agricultural mechanization, and establishing a national farmer database.

The collaboration also aims to revitalize the Lake Chad Basin project to enhance food security in the region.
