Nigeria's Annual Waste Generation Exceeds 32 Million Tonnes

The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) disclosed that Nigeria generates over 32 million tonnes of solid waste annually. During an interactive session in Abuja, Mr.

Sola Obadimu, the Director General of NACCIMA, emphasized that the industrial sector accounts for 30% of the nation's energy consumption but operates below optimal efficiency levels. Studies indicate that improving energy efficiency in Nigerian industries could lead to savings of 20-40%, which would translate into reduced costs and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

NACCIMA advocates for policies and practices that enhance product efficiency and reduce operational inefficiencies. The organization aims to promote sustainable growth in the industrial sector through cleaner production techniques and resource-efficient approaches.

Mr. Jacob Oladipo, a stakeholder participant, noted significant progress in promoting energy-efficient practices in the industry, aligning with NACCIMA's commitment to sustainable industrial development.
