Governors Support Direct Oil Revenue Remittance Reform

The Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) has expressed its support for the direct remittance of oil and gas revenues into the federation account, deeming this move essential for fiscal transparency and compliance with constitutional provisions. This endorsement follows Executive Order 9, signed by President Bola Tinubu on February 13, 2026, which seeks to realign the flow of oil and gas revenues in accordance with regulatory responsibilities within the petroleum sector.

The NGF, represented by its chairman, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Governor of Kwara State, highlighted that this reform is crucial for strengthening the federation account, which is the backbone of Nigeria's intergovernmental fiscal system. The forum noted that oil and gas revenues significantly impact the country’s distributive income and are vital for meeting the growing responsibilities of state governments, particularly in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The NGF reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the federal government to ensure that fiscal reforms yield tangible developmental outcomes for Nigeria.
