Governors Support Tinubu's Oil Revenue Remittance Order

The Nigeria Governor Forum has endorsed President Bola Tinubu's executive order issued on February 13, 2026, which mandates the direct remittance of oil and gas revenues to the federal account. This measure aims to enhance fiscal transparency and accountability across federal, state, and local government levels.

The forum, represented by 36 state governors, emphasized the importance of predictable revenue streams for effective governance, particularly in delivering essential services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The executive order clarifies the regulatory responsibilities within the petroleum sector and aims to address the complexities of revenue collection and distribution.

Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the chairman of the Nigeria Governor Forum and governor of Kwara State, described the federal account as the backbone of Nigeria's intergovernmental fiscal system, highlighting the need for clarity and consistency in revenue inflows to support state fiscal capacities.
