Nigeria Celebrates Mexico's Independence, Seeks Trade Ties

On September 17, the Federal Government of Nigeria congratulated the Government and people of the United Mexican States on the occasion of Mexico's 216th Independence Anniversary. The statement, signed by Oluwafemi Adeniyi, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted Nigeria's commitment to deepening bilateral economic and commercial cooperation with Mexico.

The Nigerian government recognized Mexico's historical journey characterized by resilience and cultural diversity. It reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening relations in political engagement, trade, investment, and consular cooperation.

Since the formalization of diplomatic ties in 1976, Nigeria and Mexico have expanded their relations across various spheres. A significant development was the inaugural meeting of the Nigeria-Mexico Consultation Mechanism on Matters of Mutual Interest, held in Abuja in November 2025, which aimed to enhance political dialogue and collaboration in trade and investment.
