Nigeria Supports US Action Against Terror Financing Suspects

The Nigerian government, represented by the Nigeria Sanctions Committee, expressed approval of the recent designation by the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of individuals and firms involved in terror financing. This designation includes nine entities, notably linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The individuals named are Ibrahim Yakubu, Ogirima Muktar, Muhammad Adamu, Adamu Chiroma, Ibrahim Abubakar, Abdullahi Umar, Usman Babangida, and Hammajam. The Nigerian Sanctions Committee noted that the U.S. action follows Nigeria's inclusion of these individuals and entities in an updated sanctions list published on June 18, 2026.

The committee emphasized that the list was based on extensive intelligence gathering and financial investigations. The Nigerian government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its financial system and ensuring that terrorist organizations are denied access to resources that sustain their activities.

Efforts will continue to strengthen collaboration with domestic stakeholders and international partners to combat terror financing.
